Creative Arts Faculty

Welcome to the Creative Arts Faculty at Box Hill School

Where innovation meets inspiration

Our dynamic department embraces a wide spectrum of artistic disciplines including 3D Design and Arts, Craft & Design. Our courses cover a rich array of specialisations such as Textiles, Fashion, Mixed Media, Fine Art, Photography and Architecture. Led by Mrs Monk, a practising artist, our faculty is dedicated to fostering creativity and artistic excellence in every student. Please explore our students’ creations below.

Arts, Craft and Design

Art, Craft & Design form the heart of creative expression and critical thinking. Engaging in these subjects allows students to explore their imagination, develop problem-solving skills and communicate ideas visually. Through hands-on projects, students gain a deep understanding of various materials and techniques, from traditional methods to contemporary practices. Students will learn a variety of practical skills including still life drawing, graphic design, print, embroidery, and constructed textiles. They will also focus on artists, craftspeople and designers and will develop and make their own designs.

This holistic approach not only nurtures artistic talent but also enhances cognitive abilities, emotional intelligence and cultural awareness. Furthermore, students will enjoy trips to local galleries and even abroad.

At Box Hill School, we offer comprehensive programmes in Art, Craft & Design at various levels, including GCSE, A Levels and the International Baccalaureate (IB). We also offer Visual Arts in our 1 year accelerated GCSE course. Our curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire students, preparing them for further education and careers in the creative industries.

3D Design

Step into our Design Technology (DT) workshop, housed in the beautiful former stables. Here, creativity takes shape in three dimensions. Under the guidance of Mrs Wilson, our Subject Lead, students explore the fascinating world of 3D Design. The workshop is equipped with tools and technology, enabling students to bring their ideas to life through various media such as wood, metal and digital fabrication.

Our DT Technician, an invaluable member of the team, ensures that the workshop runs smoothly and that students have the resources they need to excel in their projects. This environment encourages innovation, practical skill development and a deeper understanding of design principles, preparing students for a future in architecture, product design and engineering.

At Box Hill School, we offer comprehensive programmes in 3D Design at various levels, including GCSE, A Levels and the International Baccalaureate (IB).

Art Mural

We are thrilled to announce the completion of our new Art Mural, now proudly displayed in the Academic Quad. This fantastic enrichment activity has fostered creativity and encouraged teamwork among our students. Under the expert guidance of Jessica Doherty, an acclaimed visiting artist, our students embarked on an exciting journey to create this stunning mural. Composed of individually crafted tiles painted with acrylics, the artwork forms a cohesive image that captures the beauty of our local surroundings. This permanent fixture in the Academic Quad stands as a testament to our students’ creativity, dedication and collaborative spirit, inspiring our community for years to come.
